Before you continue reading and maybe breaking or bricking your phone, please keep in mind: It&#8217;s your fault!<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h1>Backup<\/h1>\n<p>If there are still important informations on your phone, it is recommended to create a backup. As my phone was no longer in use I simply copied the internal SD card to my hard disk. Also if you plan to undo the changes, you will need a backup. I skipped this step, so they are <strong>not listed below<\/strong>!!<\/p>\n<h1>Rooting the Samsung Galaxy W<\/h1>\n<p>Before we can modify the recovery mode or the operation system of the Samsung Galaxy W, we need to get root access. If you are\/ or know the copyright holder, please send me a message.)<\/p>\n<li>Shutdown your phone<\/li>\n<li>Start you phone holding the Volume Up, the Power and the Home Button<\/li>\n<li>Release the Power button after starting<\/li>\n<li>Wait for the Android box image and release the other buttons<\/li>\n<li>Press the Settings Button and wait for the recovery menu<\/li>\n<li>Navigate with the Volume Buttons to <b>apply sdcard:update.zip<\/b> and confirm the selection with the Home Button<\/li>\n<li>Select the <strong>update.zip<\/strong> entry on your internal SD. Press Home. Wait.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>reboot system now<\/strong>. Press Home.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h1>\u00a0Install ClockworkMod v6.0.4.5<\/h1>\n<p>CyanogenMod requires an specific recovery mode. In short:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Copy the <strong>recovery.img<\/strong> to you interal SD card<\/li>\n<li>Start Rashr<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Flash other Revovery<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>recovery.img<\/strong> and follow the instruction on the screen<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>To test the installation you can access the recovery mode as described in the section above (Step 2-4). You will see the CWM recovery menu instead of the old one.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>Install CyanogenMod 11.0<\/h1>\n<p>Finally we can install CyanogenMod 11.0 . Just pick the latest version from the <a href=\"http:\/\/forum.xda-developers.com\/showthread.php?t=2588495\">xda-developer forum<\/a>. I don&#8217;t want to use the Google Playstore and so I skipped the gapps part.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Copy the downloaded file to your phone<\/li>\n<li>Reboot in recovery mode<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>wipe data<\/strong> and <strong>wipe cache<\/strong> partition<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>install zip<\/strong> and select your copied file<\/li>\n<li>Wait<\/li>\n<li>Reboot your phone<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Now your phone is running a current CyanogenMod version without google.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently I got the Samsung Galaxy W GT-I8150 of my brother and was able to give CyanogenMod a try.
